TEHRAN, June 20 (Xinhua) -- A statement by Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said Tuesday that at least 65 militants of the Islamic State (IS) were killed in its recent missile attack on Syria's eastern region, Press TV reported.

Among the casualties of the IS, there were Kazakh, Saudi, Libyans and Afghan nationals, the statement availed to Press TV read. Senior Saudi IS commander, Sa'ad al-Qosaibi, was among the dead people, it added.

In the attack, four IS positions were struck by the IRGC's mid-range missiles.

Among the targets, a weapon and munition cache of IS in northern Deir ez-Zor was "precisely struck and completely annihilated," it said, adding that several tanks, military vehicles and suicide cars and a huge number of missiles were also destroyed.

Meanwhile, an IS command and operation center in the eastern Syrian city of al-Muhassan was also targeted, which the IRGC described as "one of the key and crucial IS centers in the region."

On Sunday, the IRGC said that it fired missiles at the "terrorists" command centers and logistic depots in Deir ez-Zor to punish the "Takfiri terrorists" for their recent twin attacks in Iran's capital Tehran.

On June 7, 17 people were killed and dozens of others were injured in twin terror attacks perpetrated by IS militants on Iran's Parliament and the Mausoleum of Ayatollah Rouhollah Khomeini.
