4.4 magnitude quake hits India's northeast

NEW DELHI, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Feeble earthquake shocks hit India's northeastern state of Manipur on Monday, officials said.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the earthquake of 4.4 magnitude occurred at 4:05 a.m. (local time).

"The epicentre of the earthquake was Imphal in Manipur located at 24.7 degrees north latitude and 93.9 degrees east longitude," the information released by the Indian Meteorological Department said. "The depth of the slight earthquake was 10 km."

Imphal is capital city of Manipur.

The earthquake was felt in the entire city, reports said. However, there were no reports of any damage or loss of lives in the earthquake.

Last year an earthquake of 6.7 magnitude hit Manipur and adjoining areas, killing eight people and damaging around 100 houses.
