YANGON, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Overflowing water from the Uru River has flooded low-lying areas of Phakant, Myanmar's northernmost Kachin state, official media reported Monday.

The flood was triggered by the overflow of the river due to fall of five inches of rain on Saturday.

The flood submerged three low-lying wards and Lonkhin village, the report said.

As the flood water reached one foot over a suspension rope bridge, the authorities were mobilizing force to clear debris and trash to prevent the bridge from being spoiled.

No casualties and damages were reported but preventive measures were arranged to prevent eventual more flooding.

Flood victims are being cared for by the authorities until the flood water started to recede by late on the day.
