ALGIERS, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs hailed on Thursday Algeria's "honorable" position of calling for dialogue to resolve the crisis between some Arab countries and Qatar.

"The position of Algeria is honorable, for it was the first country to issue a statement urging for dialogue, which is what we have been seeking with many respectable countries in the region," APS news agency quoted Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi as saying after his talks with Algerian Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel.

"As a big country in the Arab region, Algeria can play a role in Arab-Arab relations, thanks to its weigh in the region," he added.

The minister noted that his talks with Messahel focused on bilateral relations between the two countries, and the ongoing crisis in the Gulf region.

In the wake of the announcement of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt and Yemen to cut relations with Qatar, Algeria issued a statement urging the countries concerned to pursue dialogue as the only way to resolve the dispute, warning that the crisis would affect the unity and integrity of the Arab region.

On June 5, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt and Yemen severed relations with Qatar, as they accuse Doha of supporting terrorism. Qatar, for its part, said such steps are "unjustified."
