ANKARA, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Turkish main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) announced on Thursday a "justice march" from Ankara to Istanbul, in a bid to protest the arrest of its deputy Enis Berberoglu.

Enis Berberoglu was accused of providing confidential information to daily Cumhuriyet on the role of Turkey's intelligence service for trucking weapons into Syria.

He was sentenced to 25 years in jail on Wednesday, the first lawmaker from the CHP who has been jailed.

Berberoglu was accused of helping the Gulen Movement, which Turkish government blames for being behind a coup attempt on July 15 last year.

Speaking at Guven park in capital Ankara, CHP leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu strongly criticized the court ruling "without any evidence."

"We want justice, until democracy and justice come to this country," he said with a banner in his hands read "Justice," surrounded with hundreds of his supporters.

Police in Ankara are taking extensive security measures at the entrance of the Guven park. Many roads have also been closed to traffic while riot police have been deployed nearby.

Another demonstration was ongoing in Istanbul's Macka park.
