NAIROBI, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's electoral body on Wednesday assured foreign envoys that the country is fully prepared to hold the Aug. 8 general elections.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioner Abdi Guliye told a media briefing in Nairobi that the commission will borrow from the lessons learnt from the 2013 general elections.

"We plan to finalize all preparations on the upcoming polls at least one week to election day," Guliye said during the fifth briefing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to the Diplomatic Corps stationed in Kenya.

Guliye said that Kenya is committed to holding successful and peaceful elections due to the importance of the event both nationally and regionally.

"We are aware that the international community is watching closely on the outcome of the polls with view to assisting Kenya to maintain peace and stability before and after the exercise," he added.

IEBC said that the internal audit of the voters list has been completed for 200 out of the 290 constituencies. "We hope to complete the internal audit by the end of the week," he added.

The electoral body also commissioned KPMG to conduct an external audit on the voters register. "We will soon begin to execute the recommendations of the external audit in order to complete the exercise as soon as possible," Guliye said.

IEBC has also completed the acquisition of about 45,000 kits of electronic voter kits. According to the electoral official, the government has set aside some 200 million U.S. dollars for the August.

Polls will involve elections for the president, governor, senate, Member of Parliament as well as member of country assembly. Enditem
