Swiss FM announces to resign later this year

GENEVA, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Swiss Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter on Wednesday said that he has handed a letter or resignation to the parliament and will step down from the job at the end of October this year.

In the resignation letter published on his twitter account Wednesday, the Swiss top diplomat said that it was time "to write a new page" in his life.

"I do not know yet what ink I will use for this, but I think it will have more personal colors and be less visible publicly," Burkhalter wrote.

Aged 57, Burkhalter has been a member of the Swiss cabinet since 2009, first as interior minister and then in 2012 as foreign minister.

He served as Swiss president in 2014, an post which is taken up by a different member of the seven-member cabinet in rotation each year. Enditem
