KABUL, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday met with the visiting United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said a statement released by Afghan Presidential Palace.
The two sides discussed the ways to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan, the statement said, adding that the Afghan leader has told Guterres that Afghanistan and Pakistan has agreed recently to revive the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) of Afghanistan, China, Pakistan and the United States to push forward the peace process in Afghanistan.
The QCG meetings aimed to coordinate the peace process between the Taliban and the Afghan government. The meetings halted last year after Taliban rejected to join the peace talks and political dialogue.
Guterres arrived earlier on Wednesday in Kabul for his first visit as the UN Secretary General to the war-torn country.
During the meeting which took place in the afternoon, Guterres said the UN will continue to be a partner of Afghanistan and will continue its support to the people of Afghanistan.
He said the UN supports an Afghan-led peace process and will back the reforms in the Afghan government entities.
The two sides also discussed the latest terrorist attacks in Kabul and other provinces which left over 170 people dead and more than 400 others injured.
Earlier Guterres met with Internally Displaced People in an IDPs camp in eastern Kabul.
