China win four gold at ISSF World Cup Rifle and Pistol event

BAKU, June 13 (Xinhua) -- The ISSF World Cup Stage 5 closed here on Tuesday in Gabala Shooting Club with Shi Mengyao pocketing China's fourth gold medal, local media said.

In the women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions final match, the 19-year-old Shi scored 459.0 points for the victory. Shi also set the new junior world record of the event.

First-time finalist Nadine Ungerank of Austria claimed the silver, while Denmark's Stine Nielsen secured the bronze.

In the men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions finals, Hungary's Istvan Peni beat six-time gold medalist, Chinese Hui Zicheng for the gold medal. Poland's Tomasz Bartnik completed the podium by placing 3rd.

The Chinese team won 4 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals in total here.

Over 600 athletes from 45 countries contested 10 sets of medals in 10m, 25m, 50m rifle and pistol events.

The 2017 ISSF Season will now move to Suhl, Germany, from June 22-29.

The ISSF World Cup Final is scheduled in New Delhi in October.
