BERLIN, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday in a high-rise building in Germany's southwestern city of Karlsruhe, killing two and injuring eleven.
Fire department said an apartment in the seventh floor was first ablaze in the 13-floor building in the middle of night. All apartments were evacuated below seventh floor but residents on the upper had to wait in their homes when firefighters fought hard to reach them because of the dense smoke.
A man and a woman was found dead and 11 people were injured and taken to hospital due to toxic inhalation.
A total of 143 people were registered in the building.
Investigators were still unable to examine the building after the fire because of the intense heat.
