SYDNEY, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Nine teenagers are in hospital on Tuesday after an apparent group overdose on prescription drugs in the Australian state of Queensland.

The teenagers, boys and girls aged from 14 to 18 were taken to a local hospital in central Queensland after the authorities were called to a house early on Tuesday morning.

When the paramedics arrived, they discovered a 14 year-old boy who was unresponsive, and lying outside the front of the house, and proceeded to administer treatment while other officers entered the house.

They discovered a further 10 teenagers holed up in the property.

Queensland Ambulance spokesman Bradley Norris told local media that the children seemed to be under the influence of a variety of prescription medication.

"It's very concerning and extremely dangerous -- what we believe is the medications obviously weren't (for) the patients," Norris said.

"Some of them were highly aggressive and quite irritable and quite difficult to control."

Police who attended the incident alleged that a paramedic who was attempting to treat those inside the house was punched in the face twice.
