MADRID, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido on Monday said that his country would not stop its battle against drug trafficking after welcoming back the police officers who had had intercepted a boat attempting to smuggle 1,200 kilos of cocaine into Spain.

The minister was visiting the island of Las Palmas following the interception by Spanish security forces of a fishing boat under the Venezuelan flag, which was discovered carrying 1,200 kilos of cocaine, supposedly en-route to Spain, 800 miles to the southwest of the Canary Islands.

The drug was wrapped in 40 packets and the Interior Ministry reported the six crew members attempted to throw them overboard before the boat were boarded by the police.

"It means that the fight against drug smuggling and against international organizations who transport drugs directly from South America to Spain is giving its fruits," said Zoido.

"We are not going to stop until we are able to break up all of the networks which try to introduce illegal substances into our country," added the minister. Enditem
