HANOI, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Embassy to Vietnam has made donations to a rural school in the Vietnamese Northeast Cao Bang province.

"The non-refundable aid, worth 1 million Chinese yuan (some 150,000 U.S. dollars), is part of our initiatives to help Vietnam better its educational infrastructure, which will eventually support poverty eradication in the country," said Zhang Lianyou, Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam at the donation ceremony held in Hanoi Friday.

Cao Bang is Vietnam's neighboring province to China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The secondary school receiving the donation is situated in Son Lap Commune, Bao Lac District.

"Thank you for your meaningful and precious present to Cao Bang," said Cao Bang's Department Head of Foreign Affairs Nong Van Chan, pledging that the province will properly use the donation to benefit its people.

The school improvement will significantly help provide better education to ethnic minorities people, who account for the majority of the district's population, and promote Cao Bang's economic and social development, said Chan.

Construction shall be started immediately and completed within this year, Chan promised.

Earlier, the Chinese Embassy to Vietnam donated some 221,000 dollars and 120,000 dollars to schools in Vietnam's central province Quang Tri and northern province Lai Chau, respectively in 2014 and 2016.
