CHICAGO, June 8 (Xinhua) -- An Iowa mother who shoved her one-year-old son's arm into hot coffee has been sentenced to five years in prison, local media reported.
Rebecca Brahier, 36, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to child endangerment resulting in injury, Daily Nonpareil reported.
According to court records, medical staff alerted police in Council Bluffs, the U.S. state of Iowa, on Nov. 19, 2016, after the burns the child suffered did not correspond to the mother's initial explanation.
The child had second-degree burns on his left arm and hand, which caused blistering and skin was sloughing off, said emergency staff.
Brahier later confessed that she was "in an attempt to teach the child a lesson," as her son tried to touch her hot coffee several times.
