TRIPOLI, June 7 (Xinhua) -- The municipal council of Misrata, 200 kilometers east of the Libyan capital Tripoli, on Wednesday refused to allow Benghazi defense brigades to enter the city with their weapons, demanding them to extradite terrorists.
"We ask the Benghazi defense brigades not to enter the city with their weapons, use the city as a base or a point of concentration or supply for any party, to achieve their objectives with the use of arms," Misrata municipal council said in a press statement.
The council also demanded the militia to extradite terrorist suspects based on instructions of the Attorney General.
The statement also warned the military forces led by General Khalifa Hafer against "using the war on terrorism or pursuing the terrorists suspects as an excuse to achieve military or political objectives."
The Libyan army on Saturday seized control of the entire Jufra city, located 650 km southeast of Tripoli and has the country's third largest air base.
Benghazi defense brigades was stationed in Jufra as well as remnants of the Ansar al-Shariah group, who was forced by army operations in Benghazi to leave to Jufra.
After expelled from Jufra, Benghazi defense brigades fled to Misrata. However, they clashed with some armed groups in the city who refused their entry to Misrata.
Benghazi defense brigades is a coalition of extremist militias formed to fight against Haftar's forces in Benghazi. The militia launched several attacks on oil ports and cities in the east of the country. The latest attack was on the southern air base Brak Al-Shati in May, which killed 141 of the armed forces.
The Libyan army also accuses the militia of recruiting mercenaries from Chad. The army said several Chadian fighters have been arrested in some sites controlled by the army.
