Injured foreign-based Kenyan duo ruled out of AFCON qualifier

NAIROBI, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Belgium-based Johanna Omollo and defender Aboud Omar who play in Bulgaria have been ruled out of Kenya's squad that will play Sierra Leone in the opening 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Freetown on Saturday.

Omollo who has excelled as a midfield partner for Kenya captain and English side Tottenham FC star, Victor Wanyama and Omar will miss the away tie after picking injuries whilst playing for the clubs.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) communications' office said Wednesday that Zambia giants Zesco United FC trio of David Owino (defender), Jesse Were (striker) and Anthony Akumu (midfielder) linked up with the team on Tuesday night.

Kenya coach Stanley Okumbi is expected to have his full squad at his disposal with dependable China Super League Guizhou Zhicheng striker, Michael Olunga, winger Ayub Timbe who plays for China League One side Beijing Renhe and defender David Ochieng (New York Cosmos, USA) expected in camp on Wednesday.

The team will depart for Freetown on Thursday and return home on Monday with Kenya enjoying a run of 11 games without defeat that has seen the country rise to 74th in the latest FIFA world rankings.
