BERLIN, May 7 (Xinhua) -- The federal government of Germany, led by Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), is expected to formally determine the removal of German troops from the Turkish military base of Incirlik in a cabinet vote on Wednesday.

Minister of Defence Ursula von der Leyen (CDU) was quoted saying that "due to Turkish domestic politics, all signs now point towards a reassignment (of soldiers) to Jordan.

Von der Leyen announced that she would propose moving armed forces to the Al-Asrak air force base in Jordan which she praised as a "good alternative."

The vote follows an unsuccessful last-ditch attempt by Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel (SPD) to resolve a conflict between Berlin and Ankara over the visiting rights of German parliamentarians during a trip to Turkey on Monday.

Illustrating growing tensions between the government of Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan and several European countries, Turkey recently denied members of the German federal parliament access to armed forces stationed in Incirlik.

The move sparked outrage in Germany which has used the Turkish base as a home for military personnel and aircraft engaged in an international effort to combat the forces of the so-called "Islamic State" in Syria.
