SYDNEY, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Prince Harry has arrived in Sydney as throngs of people flocked to the popular tourist hub Circular Quay Wednesday to catch a glimpse of the British Royal despite stormy weather.
The dashing young prince arrived in Australia late Tuesday to begin the countdown to the Invictus Games, a sporting tournament for wounded soldiers from across the globe, to be held in Sydney in October next year.
Speaking at a launch event at Admiralty House in Kirribilli, the youngest son of Princess Diana and Prince Charles, spoke about how his own experience of war led him to create an event especially catered to those who had been injured in the line of duty.
"In February 2008, I was forced to leave Afghanistan. I had been serving as an army officer in the British army until my presence on the front line leaked out into the press," the prince said.
Prince Harry told those attending about an experience he had when flying back home from deployment, where the plane was loaded with the coffin containing a dead Danish soldier, along with the ravaged bodies of three soldiers who were placed into induced comas.
"The sacrifices we ask our men and women to make came home to me in those moments," he said. "Sport is what would make the difference. Sport would make these guys and girls rebuild their lives."
Prince Harry later attended an event at Campbell's Cove with the Premier of New South Wales Gladys Berejiklian, while also finding time to go for a sail in the rough weather on Sydney Harbor.
