MADRID, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Worries about corruption in Spain continue to rise, according to the monthly investigation into public opinion published by the Spanish Center for Sociological Investigations (CIS) on Tuesday.

A total of 54 percent of the 2,479 people interviewed by the CIS from May 1- 9 said corruption was a major worry for them, marking a 12.3 percent increase from the previous study.

Several corruption cases have been in the news of late in Spain. Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy from the governing People's Party (PP) will become the first PM to appear as a witness at corruption trial when he gives evidence at the Gurtel trial in late July.

However, despite the recent improvements in the Spanish economy, unemployment remains the main worry for Spaniards, with 71.3 percent of those questioned mentioning it.

Other worries are the general performance of the Spanish economy (21.1 percent), Healthcare (9.6 percent) and education (8.8 percent).

Meanwhile, only 3.5 percent of Spaniards consider immigration to be a problem, while only 1.9 percent said they are worried by the threat of international terrorism.
