Sudan urges to avoid escalation amid diplomatic crisis in Middle East

KHARTOUM, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Sudan on Monday expressed concern over decision by some Arab countries to sever their ties with Qatar, calling for stoppage of escalation.

The Foreign Ministry would like to express its deep concern over this unfortunate development among sisterly Arab countries which are dear to the hearts of the Sudanese people and the entire Arab nation," said Sudan's Foreign Ministry in a statement on Monday.

"Sudan, based on its role dictated by bonds of religion, blood and common history, calls for self-restraint and working to overcome the differences on bases of wisdom and keenness on the interests of the States and peoples of the Arab nation," it noted.

Sudan further expressed full readiness to exert its utmost efforts and endeavors with all the brothers for calmness and stoppage of escalation to bring matters back to normal and in a manner that achieves the upper interests of the peoples of the region.

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Yemen on Monday cut off ties with Qatar, accusing it of backing "terrorism" in the strongest rift among some of the most powerful countries in the Arab world for years.
