TIRANA, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Half of businesses with foreign capital, which exert their activity in Albania, are Italian and Greek companies, the Albanian institute of statistics (INSTAT) said Friday.

"Foreign companies and companies with joint capital occupy 3.5 percent of active companies in Albania and 47.2 percent of them are Italian and Greek companies," INSTAT experts said.

Meanwhile, they added that companies from the European Union represented 68.8 percent of foreign companies or jointly owned companies and out of them, 56.4 percent are either Italian or Greek companies.

These companies operate mainly in economic activities such as call centers, shoe factories and banking activities are the ones which mainly have foreign owners or joint owners.

Both Italy and Greece are the earliest and most powerful commercial partners that Albania has had during the past decades and it seems that they continue to remain in this position even nowadays.
