VIENNA, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The number of unemployed people in Austria has decreased 2.7 percent year-over-year for the month of May, Public Employment Service Austria (AMS) revealed on Thursday.

The decrease of about 11,000 jobless persons means the number of unemployed in the country now stands at 394,511.

The AMS said decreases in unemployment were recorded across all states in the country, including Vienna where a decline has not been seen for six years.

Young people aged 15 to 24 appeared to profit the most from the improvement, as unemployment in this segment was down 16 percent, with a decline now observable for the past 18 months.

However, there was a 4.2-percent unemployment increase in people aged 50 and over, a 6.7-percent increase for disabled persons, and an eight percent rise for the long-term unemployed. Enditem
