1 killed, 5 injured in car bombing near airport in E. Afghanistan

JALALABAD, June 1 (Xinhua) -- At least one person has been confirmed dead and five others were injured after a car bomb went off next to the gate of the airport outside Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangahr province, 120 km east of Kabul on Thursday, spokesman for provincial governor Attaullah Khogiani said.

"A soldier has been confirmed dead and five others including four civilians sustained injuries in a car bomb that obviously targeted airport outside Jalalabad," Khogiani told reporters here.

He also noted that an investigation is underway.

This is the second car bombing in Afghanistan over the past two days.

In the first which happened in the capital city of Kabul on Wednesday, more than 80 people had been killed and more than 350 others injured.
