KAMPALA, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Oman became the champions of the 2017 International Cricket Council World Cricket League Division 3 after beating Canada here on Tuesday.

"We are glad to win the tournament. I think it is a big achievement for us," Oman captain Sultan Ahmed told Xinhua after the game at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

The final was however not completed due to heavy rains, and the Interrnational Cricket body followed the rules to declare Oman champions as they had picked eight points from the event, while Canada were second.

Canada had started with batting to put on 176 in 38 overs before the rain came down.

"Overall we played well so I will not say we are disappointed because we have made it to Division 2 and the next stage of the 2019 World Cup qualifier," said Canada's coach Henry Osinde.

Oman's coach Duleep Mendip said his boys deserved it because they have worked hard.

He said the T20 tournament the team had played in before gave players the experience on how to perform at the highest level.

The other games were also not played, and Unites States finished third, while Singapore were fourth, Uganda and Malaysia that were relegated to Division 4 were fifth and sixth respectively.

"It is very disappointing to host and perform poorly like this. But this is part of sports," said Uganda Cricket Cranes captain Davis Arinaitwe Karashani.

Oman and Canada have now joined other sides in Division 2 like the United Arab Emirates, Scotland, Papau New Guinea, Hong Kong, China, Kenya, Netherlands, Namibia and Nepal. Enditem
