DUBAI, May 30 (Xinhua) -- The State Security Court of the Federal Supreme Court of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) sentenced Tuesday an Emirati to life in prison for planning a "terrorist attack" and trying to join the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front group, UAE daily The National reported.

This court decision rejects the appeal by the 30-year-old Emirati man, and confirmed the ruling by the Abu Dhabi Federal Appeal Court which issued the life sentence.

The culprit was also accused of planning crimes and attempting to destroy "sensitive areas" by using explosives, the report said.

The man was also said to have opened accounts on social media like Facebook and Twitter "to promote the ideas of Al-Qaida and IS."

Since the outbreak of the Arab turmoil in 2011, courts in the UAE have sentenced scores of local and foreign suspects to life or multi-year sentences behind bars.
