TOKYO, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended flat Tuesday amid a dearth of trading cues while the yen's appreciation against a basket of other currencies weighed on the market mood and sent exporter-linked issues lower.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 4.72 points, or 0.02 percent, from Monday to end the day at 19,677.85.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange edged 2.46 points, or 0.16 percent, higher to finish at 1,572.67.

Land transportation, precision instrument, and pulp and paper-linked issues comprised issues that declined the most by the close of play, and advancing issues outpaced declining ones by 1,092 to 751, on the First Section.

Trading volume of the second trading day of the week totaled 1,876.8 billion yen (16.93 billion U.S. dollars).
