TUNIS, May 29 (Xinhua) -- An extremist was shot dead and another seriously injured during an operation started Sunday night by special units of the National Guard in western part of the country, the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior announced Monday.
"The operation took place four km away from the locality of Hassi Lefrid in Kasserine, where special units killed a terrorist element classified as dangerous and suspected of one of the Islamic State organization leaders," said the ministry in a statement.
The security forces seized a hand grenade, a Kalashnikov weapon besides electronic equipment and accessories for manufacture of explosive belt.
The Tunisian Ministry of the Interior ordered the security forces spread all over the country, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
Last month, two armed militants, including a suicide bomber, were killed in a security operation in the city of Sidi Bouzid in central Tunisia.
