TAORMINA, Italy, May 27 (Xinhua) -- The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) nations issued a joint communique on Saturday that found common ground on counter-terrorism and trade but not on climate change, due to the position of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Point 32 of the six-page, 39-point communique said the U.S. is "reviewing its policies on climate change and on the Paris Agreement and thus is not in a position to join the consensus on these topics".

The remaining G7 members -- Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan plus the European Council and the European Commission -- "reaffirm their strong commitment to swiftly implement the Paris Agreement" to curb climate change, the communique said.

"I hope (the U.S.) choose soon and choose well," Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni told a press conference after the communique was issued.

For a world power such as the U.S. to decide against implementing the Paris Agreement would be "grave", said Gentiloni.

As the communique was being issued, Trump tweeted that "I will make my final decision on the Paris Accord next week!"
