JINAN, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Six people were killed and four injured after a building under construction collapsed in Jinan, capital of east China's Shandong Province, Saturday morning.

Workers were adding a second floor to a village house in Shaodong village when it collapsed around 9:50 a.m.

Police and firemen rushed to the rescue, pulling out those trapped in the debris. But six died, with the four injured taken to hospital for treatment. None of the injured are in critical condition.

Investigators said the construction was being carried out illegally.

Those allegedly responsible for the construction have been detained.
