MADRID, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Spain's economy grew by 0.8 percent in the first quarter of the year when compared with the last quarter of 2016, the Spanish Statistical Office (INE) confirmed on Thursday.

According to this data, Spain has been growing for 14 consecutive quarters on a quarterly basis, and growing for 13 quarters on a year-on-year basis.

The country's economy grew by 3 percent in the first quarter when compared to the same period of 2016, said the INE, highlighting the good performance of domestic demand.

The Ministry of Economy said that this is the fourth year of economic recovery for Spain, and the data showed a "strong" economic activity thanks to investment.

The ministry noted that the country would meet the government's prediction for the year of a 2.7 percent growth. Enditem
