Burkina Faso to honor legendary African football stars

OUAGADOUGOU, May 25 (Xinhua) -- A range of former African football glories are expected to be awarded honorific trophies on June 17 in the Burkina Faso capital of Ouagadougou, organizers said here Thursday.

The football stars to be honored include Abedi Pele (Ghana), Shabani Nonda (DR Congo), Lucas Radebe (South Africa), Roger Milla (Cameroon) and Sunday Oliseh (Nigeria).

The events will take place as part of the 5th celebration of the Pan-African event "Night of African football."

The celebration under the patronage of President Roch Marc Christian Kabore of Burkina Faso and the sponsorship of the highly influential tribal chief Mogho-Naba Baongo.

Event promotor Yves Rodrigue Sawadogo said staring guests of the ceremony will include Jean-Pierre Papin (France), Georges Weah (Liberia), Antoine Bell (Cameroon), Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo), Titi Camara (Guinea), Kalusha Bwalya (Zambia), Pape Diouf (Senegal), Rabah Madjer (Algeria), and Nourredine Naybet (Morocco).

A football gala match is scheduled as part of the event as a sign of "peace and friendship between peoples of Africa," the organizers said. Enditem
