RIO DE JANEIRO, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid have agreed to sign Brazilian teenager Vinicius Junior from Rio de Janeiro giants Flamengo, the Spanish club said on Tuesday.
The deal will take effect in July next year but the 16-year-old will remain at Flamengo until July 2019, according to a Real Madrid statement.
Media reports said the Spanish champions agreed to pay 46 million euros for forward, who made his first-team debut for Flamengo earlier this month.
Vinicius Junior has made 19 appearances for Brazil's national under-17 team and scored 17 goals.
Real Madrid warded off interest in the Brazilian from a raft of other clubs, including Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United.
