Armenia and Iran ready to deepen agricultural cooperation

YEREVAN, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Armenian Agriculture Minister Ignatiy Arakelyan and his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Hojjati signed a memorandum of understanding on agricultural cooperation here, the Armenian agriculture Ministry said on its official website on Tuesday.

The memorandum aims to establish joint regulation of such areas like protection and quarantine of plants, the fight against pests, as well as introduction of a monitoring system in both countries, said the Ministry.

During the meeting, the two ministers expressed their readiness to collaborate in different sectors of agriculture. "There are real opportunities for investments and implementation of joint programs in growing plants, animal husbandry, fish farming and processing industry," Arakelyan said.

The two sides also decided to set up a joint working group that will focus issues of Armenia-Iran partnership in the field of agriculture.
