Lao PM extends condolences to UK for terror attack

VIENTIANE, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith on Tuesday sent a message of condolence to British Prime Minister Theresa May over the Manchester attack.

"We have learned with deep sorrow over the tragic incident occurred in the evening of May 22, 2017 in Manchester, following the bomb explosion was treated as a terrorist act which caused numerous deaths and injuries of innocent people," Lao News Agency quoted Thongloun as saying in the message.

The Lao prime minister on behalf of the government and the people expressed "deep condolences and sympathy to the government and the people of the United Kingdom as well as bereaved families of the victims affected by this attack."

On Monday night, a suicide terror attack took place at Manchester Arena at the end of a pop concert, killing at least 22 people, several of whom were children, while injuring 59 others.

The police arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the attack. The Islamic State terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
