Lao police confiscates nearly one mln amphetamine pills

VIENTIANE, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Lao police in Paktha district in the northern Bokeo province have seized nearly one million amphetamine pills being transported by boat on the Mekong River after two suspects fled the scene.

The police officer in charge of drug control and supervision in Bokeo province said that during a routine patrolling along the Mekong River they encountered a suspicious boat, reported Lao state-run media Vientiane Times on Tuesday.

Police searched the boat and found 906,000 amphetamine pills on board.

Meanwhile, police in Tonpheung district, in cooperation with the drug control and supervision unit in Bokeo province, also recently arrested three Lao male suspects and confiscated 24,000 amphetamine pills in their possession.

Recently in central Khammuane province, police also arrested two more drug trafficking suspects with 3,984 amphetamine pills in their possession.
