JALALABAD, Afghanistan, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Up to eight militants loyal to the Islamic State (IS) group have been confirmed dead and three others injured after security forces aircraft targeted the hardliner group's positions in Achin district of the eastern Nangarhar province Friday night, police spokesman in the province, Hazrat Hussain Mashriqwal said Saturday.
According to the official, the government forces aircraft, acting upon intelligence report, raided the militants' hideouts in Mohmandari and Peshi areas of Achin district Friday night, killing eight armed insurgents on the spot and destroyed their weapon caches, besides leaving three injured.
No civilians and security personnel had been hurt in the raid, the official asserted.
IS militants are yet to make comments on the situation in Achin district.
