Islamic Development Bank provides Jordan with 100 mln USD in aid

AMMAN, May 19 (Xinhua) -- The Islamic Development Bank on Friday signed an agreement with Jordan to provide the Kingdom with 100 million U.S. dollars in loans and grants.

Under the deal, the bank will provide Jordan with 79 million U.S. dollars loan and 21 million U.S. dollars grant, Jordan's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury said in a statement.

Voicing appreciation to the bank's support, the minister said the amount will be used to finance projects in the field of health.

The minister stressed on the importance of the aid and support provided to Jordan, which hosts 1.3 million Syrian refugees.

The minister also highlighted pressure on Jordan in various fields of energy, education and infrastructure since the start of the Syrian crisis in 2011.

During the signing ceremony, the minister urged all countries to provide further support to Jordan to help it cope with the challenges, noting that such support is vital for Jordan to be able to go ahead with development schemes.

Between 1975 and 2017, the bank provided Jordan with 975.6 million U.S. dollars in loans and grants to support projects in various fields.
