TEHRAN, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Iran received the first batch of 4 passenger planes that it has purchased from French-Italian ATR company, Iran Daily reported on Wednesday.

Four ATR 72-600 turboprop planes landed in Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport on a direct flight from the French city of Toulouse and were officially handed over to the country's national flag-carrier airline Iran Air.

Iran expects to receive five more ATRs by the end of 2017.

In April, it was announced that Iran signed a contract with the ATR to purchase 20 passenger planes.

In February, Iranian Deputy Road and Urban Development Minister, Asqar Fakhriyeh Kashan, announced that the deal with ATR valued at 400 million U.S. dollars.

In December 2016, Iran sealed a contract with Airbus to buy 100 aircraft worth over 18 billion dollars.

Also in December, Iran Air finalized another agreement with the U.S. Boeing to purchase 80 commercial planes.

The agreement envisages the purchase of 50 twinjet narrow-body Boeing 737 planes and 30 long-range wide-body 777 aircraft with a total value of 16.6 billion dollars.
