JAKARTA, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Non-performing loan of Indonesia's banks is predicted to grow at a slower pace in April and will continue to improve in the third quarter, indicating that the economy accelerates, the central bank said on Tuesday.

The non-performing loan in April was estimated to decrease to 3.07 percent from a year earlier, said Kuriawan Agung, head of macro-prudential department of the lender.

"On non-performing loan, its growth has shown deceleration," he said at his office.

The banker said he was upbeat over the target of improvement of the bad loan from May to September of this year.

"Going forward, the non-performing loan growth is estimated to slow. At the beginning of September it would be on the level of more controllable," he added.

The central bank, which had applied the longest easing cycle last year, has refrained from imposing tightening policy despite the global uncertainty, aiming at helping spur economic growth.

The Southeast Asia's largest economy has given a signal of a good prospect of growth this year by recording a 5.01 percent growth in the first quarter, compared with 4.92 percent at the same period last year.
