TOKYO, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher on Tuesday as the market mood was lifted by a strong performance on Wall Street overnight and a rebound in oil prices.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 119.64 points or 0.60 percent from Monday to 19,989.49.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 9.98 points or 0.63 percent to 1,589.98.
Oil and coal product, food, and pulp and paper-linked stocks comprised those that rose the most in early trade.
