COLOMBO, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Saturday left for China to attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation scheduled for May 14-15 in Beijing, the prime minister's office said.
Wickremesinghe is accompanied by several ministers and officials which include International Trade Minister Malik Samarawickrema and Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayake.
The Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, known as the Belt and Road Initiative, was proposed by China in 2013 with the aim of building a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient trade routes.
