MADRID, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Spanish housing sales rose by 26.9 percent in March when compared with the same month last year, Spain's Statistical Office (INE) reported on Thursday.
A total of 40,461 operations were registered in the third month of the year, with sales of second-hand houses rising by 28.3 percent in March year-on-year to 33,100 purchases, and sales of new houses rising by 2.2 percent to a total of 7,361 purchases.
Of the total number of purchases, 89.8 percent belonged to non-subsidized houses in March, whose sales rose by 27.6 percent year-on-year to 36,332.
On the other hand, sales of subsidized houses accounted for 10.2 percent, rising by 21.5 percent to a total of 4,129.
Spain's housing sales have been rising for 14 consecutive months on a year-on-year basis according to the INE, which also reported that housing sales rose by 13.6 percent from February to March. Enditem
