ISLAMABAD, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan on Thursday summoned a senior Indian diplomat and lodged protest over "unprovoked ceasefire violation" by the Indian forces that killed a civilian and injured two others, officials said.

The Foreign Ministry said Indian troops fired across the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed Kashmir region in the night of May 10 and May 11.

Head of the South Asian Desk in the Foreign Ministry Mohammad Faisal summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner, J.P. Singh and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violation, a Foreign Ministry's statement said.

The Indian diplomat was informed that the Indian troops shelled Tandar, Subzkot, Khuiratta, Baroh, Bagsar and Khanjar sectors, resulting in the killing of one civilian and injuries to two others.

"The deliberate targeting of civilians is indeed condemnable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws," the statement quoted the Pakistani official as telling the Indian diplomat.

Pakistan and India had declared ceasefire along the LoC in 2003. However, both sides occasionally trade fire. Both accuse each other of ceasefire violation.
