VALLETTA, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Three Ukranian men aboard a yacht were arrested in Maltese waters and accused of offences related to human smuggling, local media reported on Wednesday.

The three men were detained by the Armed Forces of Malta after a European arrest warrant was issued by a Sicilian court following a Schengen Information System alert from European border and coast guard agency Frontex.

The yacht in question was intercepted on route to Italy from Turkey. Media reports indicated that 35 people were on the vessel, and supposed to be dropped off in Syracuse.

The men were arraigned at Malta's Court of Justice and charged with offences related to human trafficking.
