ALGIERS, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has requested the Islamist Movement for Society of Peace (MSP) to take part in the forthcoming cabinet, said on Wednesday Head of MSP Abderrezak Mokri in a statement.
Mokri notes that he met with Prime Minister Abdelmamlek Sellal on Wednesday, specifying that "Sellal conveyed a request from President Bouteflika who invited us to enter the forthcoming cabinet."
Yet, Mokri indicated that the final decision over this proposal should be taken by the Consultation Council of the party (Shura), which is to be held in the forthcoming days.
MSP won 33 seats in the lower house of parliament following May 4 polls, pending the final results which are due to be announced by the Constitutional Council after examining the appeals that have been submitted by some parties.
According to the constitution, President Bouteflika is due to appoint a new cabinet after the parliamentary election which saw the ruling parties of the National Liberation Front (FLN) and the National Democratic Rally (RND) winning the majority 264 of the 462 seats in the lower house of parliament.
MSP used to be part of the government as being a member in the "Presidential Alliance" from 1995 to 2011, together with the ruling parties of FLN and RND. The Islamist party then withdrew from the alliance on the pretext that the regime rejects to take "real" political reforms.
