KHARTOUM, May 10 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) on Wednesday declared "beginning of new phase" in history of its relations with Sudan, calling for realization of comprehensive peace in all conflict areas in Sudan.

"Sudan constitutes maximum importance for the EU," said ambassador of the EU Delegation to Sudan Jean-Michel Dumond when addressing the delegation's celebration of the 60th anniversary of Rome Treaties and Europe's Day.

He added that the EU is beginning "a new phase in the history of bilateral relations with Sudan."

Dumond urged the Sudanese government and armed movements to continue dialogue to stop the war and enhance peace opportunities.

He further announced that the EU would implement development projects in the different states of Sudan.

Meanwhile, Sudan's Minister of International Cooperation Osman Ahmed Fadl, addressing the celebration, urged the EU to put pressure on the armed movements rejecting the dialogue to make use of the positive atmosphere in the Sudanese arena.

He also invited the EU to invest in Sudan, saying "there are proper atmospheres for investment in Sudan after lifting of the U.S. sanctions."

The EU diplomatic missions accredited to Khartoum, a number of Sudanese officials and representatives of Sudanese political parties and civil society organizations took part in the celebration.
