VALLETTA, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese language will be introduced at a secondary state school as a pilot project starting September 2017, according to teachers familiar with the matter.
This news has been confirmed by Phyllisienne Gauci, coordinator of the National Campaign for foreign languages in Malta.
A teacher sponsored by the Confucius Institute of the University of Malta will offer the Chinese courses, untill Malta can generate its own native qualified teachers in future, Salvatore Giuffre, Assistant Lecturer at the Chinese Department at the University of Malta told Xinhua.
Giuffre said this will be the first time that Chinese language is taught at a Maltese secondary school.
At present the plan is to have Chinese as an option for students to choose at secondary level among the other foreign languages, to be taught up to Ordinary Level standard.
