UNITED NATIONS, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The UN Mission in the Central African Republic (CAR) on Tuesday strongly condemned the attack on one of its convoys Monday night, a UN spokesperson said.

"Initial reports indicated one Cambodian peacekeeper was killed and eight peacekeepers were injured, including one Cambodian and seven Moroccans," UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at the daily news briefing here.

In addition, three peacekeepers, who had initially been reported missing, have been found dead, he said, adding that one peacekeeper remains missing.

The UN Mission has sent peacekeepers to secure the site and search for the missing. The injured peacekeepers were evacuated and are receiving medical care, said the spokesperson.

The UN Mission is closely coordinating with CAR officials to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice, he said.

"We join the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in the CAR, Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, in extending our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, their contingent and their country," said Dujarric.
