CHICAGO, May 9 (Xinhua) -- A natural gas leak in the City of Grosse Pointe Woods in State of Michigan has prompted evacuation of local residents and lockdown of a local high school Tuesday morning.
The incident happened when a DTE Energy crew was performing gas valve work in an area of the city and accidentally struck a gas line, local media quoted John Kosanke, director of the city's Public Safety Department, as saying.
The city has evacuated residents in the immediate area, and the Grosse Pointe North High School has been locked down until further notice. No injuries or other damage has been reported so far.
The Grosse Pointe Woods Department of Public Safety has warned residents to avoid the area affected, while DTE is attempting to determine the size of the line that was struck.
This is the second gas leak reported in Grosse Pointe Woods in nearly two weeks. One of DTE Energy's contractors struck a gas main and caused a leak on April 27.
