SYDNEY, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The Victorian state government of Australia announced a major funding boost on Tuesday for the state's regional rail network.

Victoria's Premier Daniel Andrews and Jacinta Allan, the state's transport minister, announced on Tuesday that the new regional train timetable would deliver 142 extra services every week across the V/Line network.

The new timetable marks continued investment in regional rail by the Andrews government after 463 million U.S. dollars was committed for new regional carriages and major maintenance in May's state budget.

The Geelong line, Victoria's busiest regional rail corridor, will benefit the most from the expansion with an additional 69 services every week, meaning trains will depart Melbourne for the city at least every 40 minutes between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Lines servicing Bendigo and Ballarat, the state's two biggest regional centers outside of Geelong, will benefit from an extra 18 weekly services each.
